Alison Collins

Singing is my passion. I knew from an early age I would spend my life singing and helping others through music. My formal training in music began with piano study at age 7. I began studying voice as a teenager at Modesto Junior College and I have never stopped working to improve my understanding of the human singing voice. I received a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music and M.A. majoring in vocal performance from San Jose State University. My thirst for diverse forms of vocal music could not be quenched by traditional study alone. In addition to my formal academic training, I have studied jazz, pop, folk, and Sean-nos (old Irish style) singing.

After completing my undergraduate education, I moved to New York City where I was based for much of my performing career. I have performed professionally as a soloist throughout the world. I have performed in opera, classical concert and recital, musical theatre, and jazz (solo and ensemble).

I have been a member of the voice faculties at San Jose State University, Chabot College, and The Music School of Sunnyvale.

I have served as director of the youth choir at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in San Jose. I have stage directed for Peninsula Teen Opera, Gloriana, and San Jose State University Opera Workshop. I have assistant stage directed at Opera San Jose.

I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and serve on the board of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter. I am also a member of the Music Teacher’s Association of California.
